If you ever wanted to fool around with your dog or kids in the backyard while recording in HD or scare your pesky neighbor, now you can! During CES we reported about Parrot’s second quadricopter, the AR.Drone 2.0 that can be controlled by Wi-Fi using a smartphone or tablet. (Similar to the Helo TC mini helicopter we will be reviewing soon.)

Features

The AR.Drone 2.0 features a 720P HD camera, video and photo recording and sharing to YouTube or Picasa, as well as a new pilot mode with increased stability over the first AR.Drone. It runs on a rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery which is included.

If you don’t know already, the AR in the name stands for Augmented Reality. Which means the capability of augmented reality based games that can be used to interact with other AR Drones as already implemented with first model.

For control, the AR.Drone 2.0 pairs with the updated Freeflight 2.0 remote app that will be available for both iOS and Android. Firmware updates for the AR.Drone 2.0 itself are also handled through the app. Updates are sent over the Wi-Fi connection with the Drone, so everything can be done quickly and efficiently.

Dates and Price

The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 will be available at selected retailers in May 2012 in the US for $299 MSRP.

Pre-orders can be placed online or in-store at Brookstone starting today, March 1, 2012
